Swimming: Radnor swimmers win Central League Boys Meet; Red Raiders 2nd at girls meet

The three-day Central League Swimming Championships competition at Radnor High School Feb. 16-18 netted exciting swims each day, and culminated with the Radnor boys winning the Central League Championship meet with a final score of 421.5, thirteen points ahead of unbeaten Conestoga High School.

Radnor’s girls, who had lost to Conestoga and Strath Haven in the regular season, finished in second place, behind Conestoga and surpassing Strath Haven by more than 45 points with a total score of 369.50.

Highlights for the Radnor boys included a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 freestyle from Greg Giannella (21.97); Patrick Cullen (22.30) and Steve Giannella (22.42). Radnor boys fielded 13 Central League qualifiers, which shows the depth and talent of their team, according to Radnor boys swimming head coach Tom Robinson.

Radnor’s divers also performed well at the Central League Championships.  Notable divers included  Annika DeRoos and Christian Reusche will advance to District Championships.
