NETHER PROVIDENCE — Garrett McGurl made one big mistake Wednesday afternoon. It wasn’t on the mound for Corey Ziring’s fourth-inning home run which tied matters between Radnor and Strath Haven. It was actually how McGurl broke the tie.
“It was a curveball, and it was outside,’ said McGurl of his fifth-inning fielder’s choice that scored pinch-runner Pat Scheri and gave Radnor a 3-2 win. “My coach said, ‘˜swing at everything inside.’ So I kind of messed up, but I was lucky.’
The rest of McGurl’s day didn’t depend on fortune. He made his own luck in seven stellar innings, scattering nine hits (the Ziring dinger plus eight singles) and walking none to earn Radnor’s fourth win in five games.

RADNOR — For most of the second half Tuesday night, Jack Wilson and the Radnor attack were confined to being spectators, watching from the midline as Penncrest fired shot after shot in the general vicinity of Alex Andersen’s cage.
So when Radnor’s chance arrived in overtime, Wilson thought it best to make quick work.
After withstanding another extended spell of Penncrest possession to start the extra session, Wilson took the ball on the restart after a Penncrest penalty and fired a shot that was deflected on the way over the shoulder of goalie Steve Nolan to seal a 7-6 Central League win for Radnor.

Main Line Media News: You played a big role in Radnor defeating three nationally-ranked teams in one week – what is your most vivid memory of that week?
Emily Games: All of our games were really close, which made each one very exciting. In our game against Suffern we had to go into two 3-minute overtimes. We really worked as a team to keep our focus and composure any time we had the ball. Our defense was tight, working equally hard to win the ball back and cause turnovers. My teammates were determined to bring their best to these games.

WHITEMARSH — They’ve been friends longer than they’ve been running mates and Radnor’s Connor Holm and Andre Kelly have been teammates since they first began playing sports.
Soccer, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, track, cross country, you name it and Holm and Kelly have been teammates every step of the way.
“We met when we were 3 or 4,’ Kelly said.
If things work out, they could be college teammates, too. Holm and Kelly both list Penn State among their final choices. Holm is also looking at Connecticut, Syracuse and Illinois, while Michigan and Michgan State are on Kelly’s final list. Of course, if they do go their separate ways and both wind up in the Big Ten, they would be adversaries for the first time.
