Radnor was within a few seconds of walking off the field at halftime with a two-goal lead in its Central League showdown at Harriton Thursday afternoon.

In less than 15 seconds, Raiders senior Cate Cox tossed in a pair of shots to double her team’s advantage at the break.

That would not be the last time that Radnor head coach Brooke Fritz was surprised with what was happening on the field.

An explosion of goals in the first half of the second half made it easy for the Raiders (4-1 overall, 3-1 Central League) to halt Harriton’s four-game winning streak by earning a 23-11 decision today.

After her team had scored the first nine goals of the second half, Fritz looked up at the scoreboard and said, “I didn’t even realize we were in a running clock.”

Her team’s efficiency included sharp passing, good movement off the ball, and accurate shooting.

“Our offensive perception has always been being strong off the ball,” said Cox, who finished with six goals and five assists. “And we did a good job of that today.”

Missy Massimino, who was one of the leaders of the defensive unit which kept Harriton in check for the final 25 minutes, contributed two goals and one assist She also came up with six draws controls as part of the Raiders’ 27-7 domination in the circle.

“Our defense is happy when we can get control of the ball and get it back to our offense,” Massimino said. “Things just seemed to click out there today. We were confident and we weren’t trying to force anything.”

Radnor’s success on draw controls was noteworthy since junior standout Ellie Mueller stood on the sidelines watching her teammates play. She sprained an ankle last week, but hopes to be back in action next week, when the Raiders have Central League contests against Springfield-Delco and Strath Haven.

Sophomore Tori DiCarlo took Mueller’s place in the circle and came up with 10 draw controls. She also scored three goals and added a pair of assists.

Soph Cierra Hopson chipped in with four goals and one assist, and 10th grader Sarah Nelson, a transfer from Agnes Irwin School, contributed two goals.
