LIMERICK >> Michael Sydnes, a junior at Radnor, and Josh Luchon, a senior at Springfield, went to Turtle Creek Golf Club for the Central League Tournament Wednesday with a plan.
They knew if they hit the ball well enough to get on the greens at the 6,375-yard, par-72 Turtle Creek layout, it was just a matter of avoiding three-putts at all costs. They knew there was no point thinking they were going to make a bunch of birdies at the Turtle.
That’s why both carded 1-over 73s, sharing first place and comfortably moving on to next week’s District One Tournament back at the Turtle where they can try to execute the same game plan that worked so well Wednesday.
On the girls side, Radnor senior Brynn Walker, the reigning PIAA Class AAA champion, has always seemed to understand how to play the quirky, windswept layout in western Montgomery County.
Walker, the 2014-2015 Daily Times Player of the Year, finished with a flourish, chipping in for eagle at the par-5 finishing hole for a sparkling no-bogey 4-under 68. It looks like it’s all systems go as Walker prepares to make a bid to become a repeat state champion.
