Golf: Team title brightens Radnor’s day

LIMERICK >> There would be no District One individual title for Brynn Walker or Gabby Kim, there would be no trip to the East Regional for Michael Sydnes, who fell one agonizing shot short of advancing.

But in striving to achieve their individual goals — and with a big boost from freshman Jake Calamaro — the Radnor contingent brought a District One Class AAA team title home from Turtle Creek Golf Club Tuesday. It is the third District One boys title for the Raiders, although they got major contributions from Walker and Kim.

When Radnor had a girls team, it earned a pair of district team titles, the second of which Walker contributed to as a freshman.

Walker fired a 1-under 71 to finish in a tie for third at 1-under 142 in the battle for the District One girls individual title, but she was happy to get to continue her pursuit of a second straight PIAA individual title at next week’s East Regional at Golden Oaks Golf Club. She will also have company at the state tournament as the district title earns Radnor a spot in the PIAA team field in two weeks.
