Ice hockey: Radnor’s Brandon Curtis is Main Line Boys Athlete of the Week

A junior right wing, Curtis has become a prolific scorer for the Radnor boys’ ice hockey team. He scored a hat trick against both Lower Merion and Conestoga, and tallied two goals and two assists against Marple Newtown. According to his coaches, Curtis is “really coming into his own as a team leader this year.’

Q: Your coach has lauded your leadership ability. Can you give an example of how you can best display leadership as a right wing?

A: Just by letting everybody on the team know that if I see something that they can correct to help the team; I’ll let them know; and if they see something I need to correct to help the team, to let me know. I don’t want to be an enforcer, someone [my younger teammates] are afraid of.

Q: What to you has been Radnor’s best game of the season to date?

A: Our 4-1 victory against Conestoga the night before Thanksgiving. We had been struggling defensively before this game, but in the first couple of shifts, we came out really physical, and made a lot of shots on goal.

Brandon Curtis’ favorites

Pre-game pump-up song: Dreams and Nightmares, by Meek Mill.

Team: Philadelphia Flyers.

Person I most admire: “My older brother Billy, who played hockey for Radnor and is now attending Penn State. He’s helped me with hockey and everything else. He’s my role model. He wore No. 28 for Radnor, and so do I.’

TV show: Chicago Fire.

Place to visit: Boston.

Sporting venue: “Wells Fargo Center — the fans there are crazy (laughs).’

(To be selected as Main Line Boys Athlete of the Week, a student-athlete must first be nominated by his coach.)
