Golf: Kims are in prime position at district golf tourney

If the first day of the District 1 Golf Championship is any indication, Tuesday’s tournament finale could be a very special day for the Kims of Radnor.

Gabby Kim finished the first 18 holes at Gilbertsville Golf Club tied for the lead in the Class AAA tournament, and June Kim was one shot back of the leading pair.

Gabby Kim birdied the par-4 6th and 7th holes at Gilbertsville to tally a six-over 77, even with Central Bucks East’s Sophia Mancuso for the tournament lead. June Kim struggled down the stretch on the back nine with three consecutive bogeys, but she still covered the course in 78 strokes, all alone in third place, one shot clear of Conestoga’s Samantha Yao and two ahead of a quartet of players heading into Tuesday’s second round at Turtle Creek Golf Club.

Chichester’s Caprian Kan is also in the hunt with a 13-over 84. She’s among the 17 golfers (top 15 plus ties) advancing to Tuesday.
